We haven't been able to play for while because of our recent upgrade straight from Windows 7. We've spent months looking for a solution, with many people offering solutions through. We have therefore gone back to XP machines, an old but working laptop and desktop machine. They can ping each other, remain on the same router, both machines have IPX network protocol installed, have the same IP range. There are NO no- cd cracks installed, there are NO other patches installed, and there are NO. Hamachi or Tunngle) installed. So when we go to multiplayer on the main menu of the game, we go to Local Lan TCP/IP games and search for each other's game (meaning I make a game, my Dad tries to join, but can't even see the name show up on his list, so he made a game and I tried to. So we go to Internet TCP/IP for Direct Play and try machine host names and direct IP connections (we are both over the same network, in fact we're hardly 1 metre away from each other and our machines). We've tried IPX Connection for Direct Play but that is to no avail as well. We have the firewalls turned off and allowed the programs through our anti viruses. This test does not have any results over IPx, but on TCP/IP and given the correct port, I can join his session. My Dad recalls issues with wireless lan gameplay from before, and that machines that just happen. We are no longer in a situation where that can be done as the router. Problem Summary: 1. Can ping each other's machines, cannot join AOE2 game because it just doesn't appear on the list. Can join dxdiag test Direct. Play sessions, but cannot join AOE2 game.
The AOE2 game on multiplayer just does not appear on the list of games. Solutions Tried but did not work: 1. Install IPX protocol and play using IPX direct play. Tried making another network on our machines. Networks could not be found by the other computer. Disable both firewalls. Disable the antivirus. Join using Internet TCP/IP by network program (Hamachi, Tunngle). Check to see if router setup and networking was disallowing anything. Use dxdiag to test connection. Can connect through session but cannot connect in game. Can you provide another solution that WORKS please? Age of Empires 2 LAN games do not work on Windows 7/Vista - PC/Mac/Linux Society. I've had a LAN party with my friend this weekend and it's been great fun. We've got a regular rotation of games we usually play, most of which are coop games and such. In addition, we've got a few classics like Ao. E2. The problem is that they don't always work so well on newer OSes. Ao. E2 was giving us hell trying to get it to work. Initially, we tried to use our gaming rigs, both of which are running Win. That was a total failure, we couldn't find each others games (Using both LAN search and IP search options) even after disabling all forms of antivirus and firewalls. Getting a bit desperate, I tried downloading XP mode. When I realized it didn't fully support Direct. Draw, I almost murdered a kitten (because my connection is slow and it had taken me 3. I figured I would have to resort to hooking up my school laptop which runs the real deal instead. This time around My friend could find my match, but I could not find his. In addition, he could not connect to me, despite being able to find the game. All AVs and firewalls were disabled on my laptop as well. Really getting desperate now, my friend pulled up his Vista laptop to see if that would work. He can see my game, but not connect to it, and I don't see his at all. This was really weird, as We've had it work with two Vista machines before (although it was EXTREMELY unpredictable). We didn't take the time to try Vista on Vista, because I would have to get ATI drivers installed over the Nvidia ones on my Vista partition. In the end, my friend had to use my server to play the game, because it runs XP. Not too surprisingly, this worked flawlessly. Connecting only took a split second, and there were no issues with the game appearing as . That's why I need some help getting the game to work on Windows 7, or at the very least, Vista. Any help would be greatly appreciated! NOTE: I wasn't sure where to put this topic, but I feel that I'm more likely to get helped out here, than in the PC games forum.
